INTRODUCTION TO BHS CHANGING LIVES THROUGH HORSES PROGRAMME AT CLIFFHOLLINS RIDING SCHOOL.

Cliffhollins Riding School are delighted to announce that they are running The British Horse Society Changing Lives Through Horses programme at East Bierley, near Bradford. More information can be found here: CLTH BHS Overview

Changing Lives Through Horses (CLTH) is an educational, character-building programme for young people aged 5 to 25. It aims to develop vital life skills that are required to succeed in education, employment and adult life. No previous experience of horses is needed, simply a desire to be in this environment.

Using horses as the inspiration for change, the programme provides an alternative learning environment to mainstream education. The skills developed through the programme meet the requirements of ongoing education and training, employers and participants.

At Cliffhollins Riding School we have considerable previous experience of working with young people with a range of special needs or behavioural challenges, including our ongoing collaboration with Barnardo`s, Farfield special school, Delius special school, Kirklees & Bradford council, Nexus in school.

Horses are honest, non-judgemental and respond “in the moment” to our interactions with them. They are also big, strong but vulnerable and rely on us for all their daily needs. As such they prove to be wonderful life coaches and generate a feeling of real self- worth in those who care for them.

In addition, the active outdoor environment, in beautiful countryside, develops health, fitness and emotional wellbeing

There are also many practical opportunities to include maths, English and science learning during the sessions.

We have various packages we can provide to meet school, social, youth groups or each individual needs. E.g., volunteering, achieve small goals and complete tasks Etc.
This programme is reaching out for funding, so we can provide work booklets, learning materials, our staff time and look after the welfare of our learners (The Horse).
